School For Hearing ImpairedSilent Warriors – India Deaf School Dormitory

Organization: Child Impact International

Country: India

Description:

Child Impact International is a Seventh-day Adventist nonprofit organization that serves vulnerable children around the world. Their mission is to empower vulnerable children through education and fight to eradicate exploitation.

SchoolOne of Child Impact’s partner schools is the Seventh-day Adventist School for Speech and Hearing Impaired in Kollegal, India. It was the first Adventist school established for hearing-impaired students. Now, it is home to over 100 students. In their villages, these students were once looked down upon due to their disability, but now they are excelling in school. All of the students and staff are involved in Pathfinders. Their club, which was started over a decade ago, is called the Silent Warriors. They are involved in many activities. Every Sabbath, they pack 20-30 lunches and distribute them to the homeless in the area. The Silent Warriors love serving their community.

School Building ProjectThe school currently has one building which includes girls housing, classrooms, and boys housing. Recently, the government made a change, and the school is no longer able to have male and female students staying in the same building. They’ve started construction on a new dormitory, and their plan is to convert part of the current building into more classrooms. Child Impact is raising funds to support this building project. The new dormitory will have a capacity for 100 students and with the new classrooms, the school and the Silent Warriors Pathfinder club will be able to grow and thrive in the future. This Camporee’s Sabbath offering will be going to the dormitory project.
